Planning for ransomware attacks proves to be best hacker deterrent

Healthcare IT News recently reported that whether a hospital is the target of a ransomware attack is not so much as if but when. After reviewing results from a survey conducted in conjunction with HIMSS Analytics, it seemed that ignorance is anything but bliss.
Not only did 75 percent of hospitals claim they could have fallen victim to a ransomware attack in the last year—but that 25 percent of those were not sure or did not have the capability to find out. Further, executives were often conflicted on whether they should or should not pay the ransom demanded.
Prevention is the best medicine when a hospital is plagued by hackers. HIMSS Analytics Research Director for Advisory Solutions Brendan FitzGerald encouraged healthcare executives to focus on educating employees about ransomware attacks and developing thorough continuity plans.
